The word fishing catches the attention not only of fishermen and fish farmers, whose source of income is fishing. But it also captivates the interest of anglers, angling for the enjoyment and relaxation.

Normally, fishing is the practice of catching the fish. It is one of the old business types. Anciently, fishing was developed to provide the food for surviving the life of men. But today, it is, mostly turned to a sort of game and competition for pleasure, a mean of sport rather than food for survival. Angling is another name of fishing. It is the activity of grabbing, trapping and catching the fish for competition and sport.

Fishing can be classified into two categories;

1. Commercial fishing
2. Sport Fishing

Commercial Fishing

Firstly, commercial fishing is the business of catching, collecting and marketing the fish. Though, commercial fishing is the business of profit & loss, it produces the splendid amount of earning and achieves magnificent economic benefit as well. Million of people are directly or indirectly connected to the business of fishing and fisheries. Fishing industry makes billion of dollars through the taxes on the equipment and tools of fishing.

Commercial fishing may vary to small scale fishermen using the boats, with hand casting nets, to a large scale fleet of trawlers containing the tons of fish everyday.

Commercially, fishing contain salmon fishing, Fresh water fishing, River fishing, Salt water fishing and catching of different other marine species like prawns, octopus, shellfish, and turtles for food supply.

On the contrary, sport fishing is the competition or game of trapping and catching the fish for the enjoyment and pleasure of mind and soul. And sometime sport fishing is called an angling, the activity of capturing the fish for amusement. It is also called recreational fishing .For some people; it is the favorite pass time activity. And for some men it is the professional sport.

Moreover, fishing, as the business or sport, is the art of catching fish with the help of different techniques and tools.

Fishing utilized different techniques like trapping, netting, grabbing angling and hand gathering according to the nature of fishing. With the advancement of technologies, the methods of fishing are also amended. But the very simple and ancient method of fishing is the fishing with hand gathering, still used today .it is the traditional method practice by the professional and non professional fishermen.

Fly-fishing technique is another method used for different kind of fish hunting. In this method, the warms or artificial flies are used to attract, deceive and trap the fish. And it can be done with rod, line, net, hook and any one of the wide range of baits.

Dredging is the finest technique of fishing. Dredges, strong wire mesh boxes with a mouth of about three meters wide and three meters high, are used to find and bring the fish up from the bottom of the river. This technique is used basically for catching the bass fish but other aquatic species are also caught with the help of dredging. Mesh netting is another way in which the nets are anchored in position and marked at each end with a buoy on the surface so that fish can be captured easily. The technique used trawlers with large nets that drag through the sea for fishing is called trawling. The way of using sailboats with one or two fishermen is the process of seining. It is to lay out a net with large ropes at the both ends from the boat. Hook fishing is one of the basic method used to trap the fish .it is to setout a long length of fishing line. Often several kilometers long to which short lengths of line carrying baited hooked are attached. Kite fishing allows the fishermen to east far into the water, even without a boat.

The main tools used for fishing are rod, line, reel, hook, net and bait or lures. But they are varies in their design and quantities including other special equipments, depending upon the method and style of fishing. The rod is one of the essential tools used for grabbing the fish. It is the plastic or wooden stick attached with the fishing line. Its size range changes from 24 inches to as long as 20 feet, depending on the nature of fishing. Sometimes, rod is called as pole when it is composed of classic bamboo.

Sport Fishing

Fishing reel is a spool and axle instrument used in deploying and returning the fish line together with the fishing rod. Simple reel is use only to contain the line and to assist in tiring a hooked fish. Modern reels are set on board gun water especially in sport fishing.

Hook is another device used for fishing. It is the one of the basic tool connected to the fishing line. And it is often attached with the bait or lures. Varieties of fishing hooks are available in the market.

As far as fishing line is concerned, it is a cord that’s one end is attached with the rod and another end is connected to the hook. The object, attach to the fishing hook to attract and deceive the fish are called as bait or lures’. And have a variety of range.

Sometimes fishing can be categorized according to the kind of fish and fisheries rather than methods and technique utilized for fishing. Such as salmon fishing, bass fishing, fresh water fishing salt water fishing, surf fishing etc.

Salmon fishing, as name indicates, is the hunting of the salmon fish. A salmon is a fish with silver skin and large in the size. Its pink flesh is used for meal .salmon is, marine living organism, live in sea but lay eggs in the river. Several types of salmon fish are available in the seawater including smoked salmon, whole salmon, wild salmon and other different types.

Trout is another kind of fish, marketing for the food. The business of capturing the trout is categorized as the river or fresh water fishing.

Fishing of the bass is one of the favorite pass times in North America. It is one of the sport fishing and has its own rules and laws to follow. Bass fishing is not only famous sport fishing of North America but its popularity reaches to Europe and other continents too. Largemouth bass fish, smallmouth bass fish, spotted bass fish and

Kentucky is several types of bass fish, used for sport. Catching and returning the fish is one of method used for bass as sport fishing. Most of the angler of fishing adopted the policy of catch and return the fish in the water after being trapped and hooked. Because the y done it for the sake of pleasure rather. Though bass fishing is a kind of sport but flesh of the bass is also used for food. Technically bass fishing utilized different methods which are amended with the technological advancement. Fly fishing is one of old techniques also precede for the bass fishing.

Thus, fishing, whether it is used for the purpose of business or as a professional sport or some time as a hobby, is a kind of adventure practiced with distinct techniques and tackle for harvesting the fish.
