Fishing Lines
Fishing line is one of the necessary equipments used for fishing. It plays the significant role in recreational fishing. The fishing line is mainly a type of string or cord that’s one end is attached with the rod and another end is connected to the hook. The angler needs to consider the size and specie of fish as well as the condition of water and other tackles like rod and reel for fishing at the time of fishing line selection. Because to choose the correct fishing line worth a lot for tackling and catching the fish.
There are various types of fishing lines available for fishing and angling but you have to make sure about the certain characteristics of the fishing line which include the Knot strength: the strength of the knot must be consider in order to not loose the fish. The right knot is very significant and you must pull the knots tight to avoid slippage. Knot strength is shown in percentage. Abrasion resistance: it is the ability of the line to endure rubbing or scraping and makes the line strong that it will not break easily when rubbed against fishing cover such as rocks, brush etc. Shock strength: it is the strength and capability of the line to absorb the shock. Tensile strength: it is the stress at which the line breaks or permanently deforms. It is the breaking strength of the line. It is one of the important parameters need to determine. Limpness or stiffness: the limper line is usually more sensitive and helps the angler in catching the small fish. The limps of the line result in more stretch. But the large diameter makes your line stiffer and strong plus adds the strength and durability. Limpness or stiffness of the line differ and depend on the type of line you are selecting for your fishing. Stretch: the stretch quality of the line is by some means good for different fishing applications as it does not break when fighting fish. And for some techniques stretch of line has no value as it decreases the ability of detecting strikes and setting hooks. And for those fishing techniques the line used having minimal or no stretch with strong strength and durability that break fish before the line does. There are different types of fishing lines available having stretch, controlled or no stretch quality. And the last but not least feature of fishing line is desired range of Visibility: the visibility of line is matter in clear water. It is important to have line that is not very visible to fish but it not makes such difference in stained or muddy water.
Fishing lines are often used for sport and recreational types of fishing. But in commercial fishing no one can deny the use of the fishing lines. As the long line fishing is a commercial method of fishing uses the hundreds or even thousand of baited hooks hanging from a single line.
In past times, fishing lines were often made of horse hair or silk threads. But with the growing of time and the reformation brings in the technological advancement, the improvements also bring in the construction of fishing line and other tackles and tools used for angling.
Modern fishing lines are composed of artificial material or synthetic substances like nylon, polythene, and Dacron etc for spinning, spin cast or bait casting reels. Other options for the lining material are also introduced made of copolymers or fluorocarbon or a combination of two materials. Different fishing lines are used for different kinds of fishing depending on the techniques used by the anglers or fishermen suited to their fishing. You can not used the single fishing line for all kind of fishing techniques because each and every line composed for fishing has its own features and properties which are not appropriate for all kinds of fishing. So, you have to ponder much more while making a selection of fishing line because if you select the line which is weak and not match the conditions of your fishing then it will perhaps snap while you are working to reel in your catch. Your choice of right fishing line will definitely perform a major part in your success of catching the fish. Following are the some of the kinds of fishing lines which are often used and preferred by the anglers for angling.
Nylon or Monofilament Lines: The lines fabricated with the nylon/monofilament are commonly used in most of the fishing applications. They have most desired features of the fishing line including the low cost. Monofilament line is mostly not visible to fish and its knot strength makes it popular amongst anglers. But it is suggested not to use in deep sea fishing as it can reduce sensitivity and loose the knot when it becomes wet. They are presented in different colors and every angler has his own choice for various reasons. They are also available in fluorescent form and anglers practice it in many of the fishing methods.
Co-polymer Lines: The co-polymer is, the variation of the monofilament fishing line, a combination of materials turned together to fabricate a single strand fishing line. Their composition added the properties, like higher sensitivity and low stretch, which make these lines strongest and more durable than monofilament lines. And they have the low memory but their strength of knot is increased than that of monofilament fishing lines. They resist the abrasion and become stiffer.
Braided Lines: The braided lines have remarkable role in deep sea fishing and trolling or long casting fishing techniques because of their superior strength and durability and they absorb less water and have the quality of resistant to abrasion. And this type of line is so strong that you have trouble breaking it when you get a snag because a fish is very unlikely to break it. They float so they can be good for top water baits. The one drawback of this line is its visibility to fish. But manufacturers now try to overcome the disadvantages of the braided fishing lines.
Fluorocarbon Lines: In the world of modern angling, fluorocarbon lines are widely used fishing line and most of the dedicated anglers favor this type of the fishing line because it is not only invisible to fish but it has the great quality of abrasion resistance. These lines are mostly used in fly fishing and anglers prefer them in clear water fishing applications because of their unseen or invisible quality. They have the great strength and durability.
Wire Lines: They are used in deep or trolling techniques of catching the fish with strong currents. And they sink very quickly. Wire lines are very dedicated form of fishing line used with conventional reels with extra capacity of line.
